Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:110; NKJV). The Greek word for abundance used here has the sense of overflowing and excess! The apostle Paul taught us that God will, “supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:19; NKJV). The word “all” does mean “all” and notice that God supplies according to His standard of “riches.” Paul went further by
saying that God can do, “exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Eph 3:20; NKJV), this includes equipping us for good works (2 Cor 9:8b), blessing others and spreading the gospel. God loves people that giver and rewards them super-abundantly (Luke 6:28). However, in thinking about prosperity, we need to guard against making money and things an idol in our lives (1 Tim 6:10; Matt 6:24; Heb 13:5). God instructed His people, Israel that as long as they obeyed His commands they would be blessed (Deut 28:1-4) and prosper (1 Kings 2:3). The Psalmist told us that as we delight in God’s word, he will prosper us like a fruitful tree planted by a river (Ps 1:2-3). As we make God’s word our priority and obey it, we will prosper (Josh 1:8). I love Matthew 6:30 (NKJV), “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Put God first, focus on Him, walk in obedience and he will bless, prosper and use you mightily!
